SEVEN DIMENSIONS OF WELLNESS
Wellness is much more than merely physical health, exercise or nutrition. It is the full integration of states of physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, interpersonal, environmental and occupational wellness. Each of these seven dimensions act and interact in a way that contributes to our own quality of life. Disruption of any wellness can lead to the imbalance of the whole well being. Family life style has a big impact and influence on one’s health choices either it is good or bad.

This family tradition has shaped who I am today. I am an individual with both introvert and extrovert characteristics. The extrovert perspective contributes to the fact that I speak up my mind quite easily. Opening myself to other helps reduce stress, therefore, promoting a healthy life. In the other hand, as an introvert, I develop deep thoughts and understand my own feeling as well as others’. Acknowledging and sharing feelings of anger, fear, sadness or stress; hope, love, joy and happiness are productive manners that contributes to my Emotional wellness. However, no one is perfect including me. I have found that I constantly compete with others in educational level. When the outcome is undesirable, I may feel upset and disappointed. Fortunately, this stage has never lasted for more than a few days or has shown any concernedly negative impact to my daily life.
Once again, my parents’ childhoods were connected to wars. There weren’t many opportunities for children during that time to go to school, especially, children of the poor. Growing up with poor education, labor works were the only option they have. As a child, I had witnessed how hard my parents worked in order for me to be in school. But what are these exactly? And how do they apply to me and my health and wellness? The first of the six dimensions is physical wellness, which is your body’s overall wellness. This includes the absence of illness and disease and your body’s fitness level. You have to make good, healthy choices to be physically well. Eating healthy, exercising, and seeing a doctor on a regular basis for check-ups are all conducive to physical wellness. Two people I believe have developed interpersonal wellness are Oprah, and, on a personal note, my sister. The fifth dimension is spiritual wellness. The spiritual wellness of a person has to do with their own personal beliefs. A person doesn’t have to believe in any one God, they just have to believe. To practice spiritual wellness is to have a sense of belonging to something greater than yourself and to have joy, compassion and, fulfillment in your beliefs. Examples of this dimension would be the Pope, and the Dalai Lama. The last of the six dimensions is environmental wellness. By definition environmental wellness means the livability of one’s surroundings. A few steps we can take to improve our environmental wellness are reducing waste and pollution by recycling or carpooling when ever possible, and keeping your surroundings clean and free of hazards. Two people I admire for their concern for our environmental wellness are Al Gore and Cameron Diaz. The seventh dimension (as some experts say) is occupational wellness. This refers to the level of happiness you gain through your job. Career experts say that setting career goals that reflect your personal values is the way to achieve occupational wellness. Personally, I believe as long as you enjoy your work, the people you work with and have the opportunity to learn and grow with your job you can find occupational wellness.
